JAKARTA, May 10 (Xinhuanet) -- Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono said Tuesday long-serving president Soeharto, who is under hospital treatment, deserved his respect, declining to comment on possible resumption of Soeharto's graft trial.
"It's not the right time to ask that question," Susilo responded to a journalist question over Soeharto's graft trial shortly after paying a visit to Soeharto at the Partamina Hospital here.
Susilo said he visited Soeharto because he has a moral obligation to show respect to the past leaders.
"The government also has an obligation to send the presidentialmedical team to treat him (Soeharto). Such a special treatment applies to all former presidents and vice presidents," he said.
Soeharto was sent to hospital Sunday for intestinal bleeding.
The 83-year-old man ruled Indonesia for 32 years but was forced to resign in nationwide pro-democracy protests in 1998. He was charged with corruption but the Jakarta court ruled in 2000 that Soeharto was medically unfit for trial. Enditem
