BEIJING, May 10 -- A US federal court on Monday barred a former UN investigator from giving the US Congress documents related to the investigation into alleged corruption and fraud in the UN oil-for-food program for Iraq.
US District Judge Ricardo Urbina in Washington issued a 10-day temporary restraining order at the request of the United Nations against ex-UN investigator and ex-FBI agent Robert Parton.
Parton has been subpoenaed by three US congressional committees to provide them with documents he took with him when he resigned from the UN panel investigating the alleged corruption. He has already turned over some documents to one congressional committee.
The UN suit seeks to force Pardon to return the documents and not comply with subpoenas from two other congressional committees.
The UN says disseminating the documents would potentially place at risk the lives of witnesses who have cooperated with the inquiry committee. Enditem
