Soeharto in serious condition, bleeding
www.chinaview.cn 2005-05-10 14:56:09

BEIJING, May 10 -- Former Indonesian President Soeharto is suffering from internal bleeding and his condition is potentially life-threatening.

Doctors at Jakarta's Pertamina Hospital said Monday that the bleeding is influencing other organs such as the brain, heart and kidneys and the possibility for recovery is 50-50.

The 83-year old former leader was taken to hospital on Thursday after blood tests showed he was anemic.

Soeharto was previously hospitalized in 1999 and in 2004. Indonesian courts have failed to try him for alleged corruption due to his fragile health.

Soeharto, who ruled Indonesia for 32 years, was forced to resign in 1998 amid violent pro-democracy riots.
