MOSCOW, May 9 (Xinhuanet) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao left herefor Beijing Monday evening after attending celebrations marking Russia's victory in World War II.

    On Monday morning, the Chinese president joined more than 50 other state leaders or heads of international organizations for the celebration marking the 60th anniversary of the victory of Russia's Great Patriotic War.

    On the sidelines of the celebrations, Hu Jintao held talks withhis Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin on major international issues and regional issues of common interest and how to further bilateral relations.

    The Chinese president met other state leaders who were in Moscow for the celebration.

    President Hu's Russian tour was aimed at promoting the Sino-Russian strategic cooperation partnership, enhancing political mutual trust and elaborating China's independent foreign policy ofpeace and its determination to seek peaceful development.

    Soon after his arrival Sunday, Hu Jintao met Russian veterans, who helped China in fighting against Japanese invaders in World War II, or their representatives. Enditem
