DAMASCUS, May 8 (Xinhuanet) -- Syria on Sunday said that its banks has never financed any terrorist persons or organizations, the official SANA news agency reported.

Syrian Finance Minister Mohammad al-Hussein made the denial while meeting with a visiting delegation of the UN commission in charge of sanctions on al-Qaida organization and the Taliban movement in Afghanistan.

Al-Hussein told the UN delegation that "the Syrian banking body has absolutely no accounts for terrorist persons or organizations and it wouldn't permit to transfer any form of terrorist organizations' financing."

"Syria is committed to international resolutions, ... verifies the accounts of any individual or organization, and freezes those mentioned with specified names by the UN commission," Hussein said.

The UN commission, chaired by Argentine's permanent envoy to theUnited Nations Sezar Mayoral, hailed Syria's cooperation and participation in the International Convention on Fighting the Financing of Terrorism, which was approved by the UN General Assembly in 1999, SANA said.  Enditem
