DAMASCUS, May 8 (Xinhuanet) -- Syria on Sunday said that its
banks has never financed any terrorist persons or organizations, the official
SANA news agency reported.
Syrian Finance Minister Mohammad al-Hussein made the denial while meeting with a visiting delegation of the UN commission
in charge of sanctions on al-Qaida organization and the Taliban movement in
Afghanistan.
Al-Hussein told the UN delegation that "the Syrian banking body
has absolutely no accounts for terrorist persons or organizations and it
wouldn't permit to transfer any form of terrorist organizations' financing."
"Syria is committed to international resolutions, ... verifies
the accounts of any individual or organization, and freezes those mentioned with
specified names by the UN commission," Hussein said.
The UN commission, chaired by Argentine's permanent envoy to
theUnited Nations Sezar Mayoral, hailed Syria's cooperation and participation in
the International Convention on Fighting the Financing of Terrorism, which was
approved by the UN General Assembly in 1999, SANA said. Enditem
