JAKARTA, May 7 (Xinhuanet) -- Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono is
to meet US President George W. Bush on May 25, the second day of his three-day
visit to the country, a media report said here Saturday.
The visit is part of his tour to a number of foreign countries to seek
support to the Indonesian government's working plan, particularly in the field
of economy, investment, education and trade, stated spokesman Dino Pati Djalal
said.
"On May 25 President Susilo is scheduled to have a bilateral meeting with
President George W. Bush in the White House," Dino, who was quoted by the Kompas
daily as saying.
The president's visit aims at advancing the government working plan.
Indonesia needs international cooperation and support, Dinosaid.
He said that Susilo and Bush are to attend the Asian-Pacific American
Heritage in the White House with topic of tsunami disaster.
The spokesman said that one of the purpose of the visit was fora creation
of normalization of the military relations of the two countries, which has been
stalled by a numbers of problems in the past.
The United Stated has imposed an embargo on the Indonesian military due to
alleged violation of human rights during the referendum of East Timor for
independence in 1999.
But the US government lifted the ban for the purchasing spareparts of
military plane Hercules following the tsunami disaster in Indonesia's Aceh
province on Dec. 26 last year.
During his US visit, Susilo would also discuss with the US senate about the
450 million dollar fund promised by the US to Indonesia's tsunami victims.
The Indonesian president is also scheduled to deliver
a speech about the policies of the Indonesian government in the US-Asian
Business Council and US Chamber of Commerce, at the first day of the visit.
