SEOUL, May 7 (Xinhuanet) -- South Korea and Russia are working to arrange a
meeting between their leaders in Moscow next week to discuss nuclear weapons
issue on the Korean Peninsular, the South Korean news agency Saturday quoted an
official as reporting.
South Korean President Roh Moo-hyun is scheduled to fly to Moscow on Sunday
to attend the 60th anniversary celebrations of Russia's World War II victory
over Germany the next day.
South Korea hopes that Roh's meeting with Russian President Valdimir Putin
will take place right after the anniversary celebrations, the official said on
condition of anonymity.
"It is not a formal summit which has a set of pre-arranged agenda," the
official said, adding that the main topic of the discussions will be the stalled
six-way talks on the nuclear issue.
The Democratic People's Republic of Korea attended three rounds of negotiations with the United States, South Korea, China, Japan and Russia to resolve the dispute, but little progress has been made. Enditem |
