The Ming Pao Publishing House and
Teresa Deng Foundation jointly published at the end of April a biography of
Teresa Teng with nearly 100 photos of Teng, together with a set of 10 CDs of
Teresa's 107 songs.
Cooperated with the publishing house, the Hong Kong Post also published a
set of stamps in memory of Teresa Teng.,
The Taiwan-based Teresa Teng Foundation prepared a special Taiwan tour to
remember Teresa. About 400 Teresa fans from all over the world will take
dumplings, one of the most favorite food of Teresa, to visit the tomb of Teresa,
to commemorate the singer.
The fans will also visit the residential house of Teresa and anexhibition
of Teresa, where visitors can see costumes, perfume, jewelry, photos and award
cups of Teresa.
In Chieng Mai, where Teresa passed away. Teresa's CDs have beensold well in
the biggest music store in the mountain city in northern Thailand. The owner of
the store have had a picture takenwith Teresa, which becomes a beautiful memory
of the old man. He refused to sell the picture at a high offered price.
Many Chinese visitors to the city would like to pay visit to the Imperial
Hotel where she once reside and her tomb in the city to pay tribute to their
beloved signer.
Born in 1953 in a poor family, Teresa Teng gave up her formal education in
third year of middle school and began her performing career in floor shows.
Gaining fame in China's Taiwan, Hong Kong and South East Asia, she embarked on
the path toward internationalstardom in 1973 when she decided to take on the
challenge of Japan.
After much efforts, Teresa won the prize for "Best New Singing Star" in
Japan's widely known Red and White Song Competition, Golden Bell Award in
China's Taiwan and some other music awards.
In Taiwan, she was best known for singing folk songs and romantic ditties
marked by cute little vocal inflections, in Japan,she began to do more demanding
ballads and her singing technique became more matured.
Teresa also staged performances in the United States. Besides the Chinese
Putonghua (or Mandarin), she also sang songs in fluentCantonese, Japanese and
English. Even a number of musicians acknowledged that she was a real talent in
learning different languages.
She had a face that fit the Chinese ideal of genteel and sweet young
maiden, and she had that fresh and pure "girl-next-door" demeanor.
She liked dressing in purple, pink and white and told her brothers that
Hong Kong was the most places her had ever gone. Even during the years when she
lived in France, she would return to her villa in Stanley of Hong Kong to spend
a period of time.
Her fans in Hong Kong have listed top eight most favored songs of Teresa
Teng. They include "The Moon Represent My Heart," "Your Sweet Smiles," "Goodby
My Love," "Small Town Story" and four othersongs.
Many fans believe that is was the sweetness in her voice that made here
famous and she had a perfect voice for folks songs and ballads. She was very
wise to choose right songs for herself, which could hardly be imitated by
others.
Teresa Teng recorded as many as over 100 CDs and each was sold at over one
