UN chief congratulates Blair on election victory

    UNITED NATIONS, May 6 (Xinhuanet) -- UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan on Friday expressed his warmest congratulations to British Prime Minister Tony Blair on his ruling Labor Party's victory in Thursday's parliamentary elections, which gave him a third straight term.

    The secretary-general "greatly values the close working relationship he has established over the past eight years with Mr.Blair and his government," said a statement issued by a spokesman for Annan in New York.

    "The secretary-general looks forward to continued collaborationwith the British government in dealing with the many challenging issues before the United Nations, including the critical process of reform the organization is undertaking," the statement said. Enditem
