BEIJING, May 6 -- Angelina Jolie has met the Prime Minister of Pakistan on a visit to highlight the plight of Afghan refugees in the country.

The Oscar-winning actress, who is a goodwill ambassador for the United Nations, thanked Shaukat Aziz for taking in three million Afghans. She also accepted an invitation to speak at a conference on the issue, being held in Pakistan later this year.

The film star said she wanted to meet the Pakistani politician because of his "deep concern" for Afghan refugees living in the country. She is due to meet Afghan refugees during the remainder of her three-day stay in Pakistan.

In 2003, she was presented with an award for her humanitarian work, which has taken her to dozens of countries around the world.
