SEOUL, May 5 (Xinhuanet)-- Two senior Japanese politicians arrived in Seoul Thursday for talks expected to cover souring diplomatic ties between the Asian neighbors, according to Yonhap.
During their four-day trip, Tsutomu Takebe, secretary-general of Japan's ruling Liberal Democratic Party (LDP), and Fuyushiba Tetsuzo, secretary-general of the Komei Party, the LDP's coalition partner, are scheduled to meet President Roh Moo-hyun and top South Korean politicians, an official at the ruling Uri Party said.
The Japanese politicians are said to convey a personal letter by Japanese Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi to President Roh when they meet early Friday, the official said.
During the trip, the Japanese politicians will also meet National Assembly Speaker Kim One-ki, Uri Party chief Moon Hee-sang and Park Geun-hye, chairwoman of the main opposition Grand National Party, the official said.
Relations between South Korea and Japan became frayed after a Japanese provincial government passed a motion in March aimed at boosting its claim to the islets of Dokdo.
The ties further soured after the Japanese authorities approved school textbooks whitewashing Japan's wartime atrocities. Enditem |
