ISLAMABAD, May 4 (Xinhuanet) -- At least 29 people were killed and nine others injured when three two-storey buildings in Pakistani eastern city of Lahore collapsed after gas cylinders stored in one of them exploded Tuesday.

    The three buildings in the thickly-populated Allama Iqbal town collapsed after cylinders exploded at 2:18 a.m. Tuesday, The news paper Dawn reported Wednesday.

    Over 500 liquefied petroleum gas cylinders were stored in one of the buildings near a vegetable market. Eyewitnesses said that the accident occurred during refilling of smaller cylinders from bigger ones.

    Windows and windowpanes of adjacent houses were shattered, shutters of a number of adjacent shops were damaged by splinters and several vehicles parked near these buildings were also smashed, the news paper report said.

    Till Tuesday night, the rescue work was underway and two bodies were still under the rubble, the report said. Enditem
