Urgent: US soldier pleads guilty to prisoner abuse charges
www.chinaview.cn 2005-05-02 23:43:35

WASHINGTON, May 2 (Xinhuanet) -- Lynndie England, a female US soldier involved in the prisoner abuse scandal at the Abu Ghraib prison in Iraq, pleaded guilty Monday to several abuse charges at a court-martial at Fort Hood, Texas.

England, 22, was one of seven members of the Maryland-based 372nd Military Police Company charged with abusing prisoners at the prison outside Baghdad in 2003.

Shortly before England pleaded guilty, her lawyers demanded the judge be changed for the court martial because the military judge, James Pohl, had presided over all the other Abu Ghraib abuse cases.Enditem
