Violence surges on in Iraq
www.chinaview.cn 2005-05-02 10:14:22

BEIJING, May 2 --Insurgents have launched a third straight day of attacks in Iraq, killing at least ten Iraqis and wounding more than 20.

A car bomb blast detonated near a US military convoy in western Baghdad on Sunday, destroying a US Humvee and causing several casualties.

The attack took place on a road in the Jame'a district of western Baghdad, killing a child and wounding seven people.

Earlier on Sunday, a suicide car bomb hit another US military convoy in southeastern Baghdad , killing four Iraqi civilians and wounding 12 others.

Meanwhile, five policemen were killed when some 30 insurgents attacked the checkpoint close to a military college near the old Deyala bridge south of Baghdad.

Insurgents have stepped up their attacks in and around Baghdad since the formation of the new Iraqi government on Thursday.

In other developments, in a morning raid in South Baghdad on Sunday, Iraqi security forces arrested six militants suspected for the murder of British aid worker Margaret Hassan.

Hassan was kidnapped last October and believed to have been murdered, but her body hasn't been found yet.
