Iran to continue nuclear talks even if resumes uranium enrichment

TEHRAN, April 30 (Xinhuanet) -- Top Iranian nuclear negotiator Hassan Rowhani said on Saturday that Iran will continue negotiations with the European trio Germany, Britain and France even if it resumes parts of its uranium enrichment activities.

Rowhani, also secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, made the remarks while visiting the newly opened Imam Khomeini International Airport.

Referring to the European trio's support to take Iran's nuclear case to the UN Security Council if Tehran resumes uranium enrichment, Rowhani said, "Based on Iran's proposal, all our activities of nuclear fuel cycle will be peaceful."

"The proposal will give legal and political guarantees. The Islamic Republic is ready to guarantee that its nuclear activities are for peaceful purposes. And referral of Iran's nuclear dossier to the Security Council will be meaningless," the official stressed.

On the possibility of US obstacles to the negotiations, Rowhani said, "The US may intend to put obstacles whenever they want but the current trend of talks will leave no place for Iran's nuclear case to be sent to the Security Council legally or technically."

He rejected any link between the Iran-Europe nuclear talks and the upcoming June 17 presidential election in Iran.

"The presidential election will have no impact on the negotiations," said Rowhani.

The Europeans are interested in prolongation of talks, he said, stressing "Iran will make necessary decisions this week." Enditem
