BEIJING, April 29 -- Iran will resume its uranium enrichment program if negotiations this week with European nations on the country's nuclear program fail.
Iranian Foreign Minister Kamal Kharrazi made the warning on Thursday, ahead of Friday's negotiation with France, German and Britain. "If there is no agreement and the negotiations collapse then certainly we would have no choice but to restart it or activate it. This is our right and nobody can deny us our rights." he said.
Kharrazi stressed, however, his country's nuclear programme is peaceful.
France, Britain and Germany have been negotiating with Iran, seeking guarantees it won't use its nuclear program to make weapons, as Washington suspects.
In Iran, Sirus Naseri, the head of the Iranian delegation, said it would not let negotiations be "prolonged without reason."
Iran agreed in November to freeze uranium enrichment, but insists the move is temporary.
