PRAGUE, April 25 (Xinhuanet) -- Czech President
Vaclav Klaus officially named Jiri Paroubek new prime minister Monday to replace
Stanislav Gross who resigned earlier in the day amid a political crisis
triggered by a housing scandal, the presidential office announced.
Under a deal signed last week by Gross' Social
Democrats and their coalition partners, the Christian Democrats and the Freedom
Union, the three-party coalition government will be re-formed under Paroubek,
deputy chairman of the Social Democrats.
Gross, 35, had led the government since last July and
he resigned amid a political crisis erupting earlier this year when he was
unable to explain how he paid for his luxury apartment.
According to Czech constitution, the president
appoints the new prime minister who forms the government and submits it for
presidential approval. The new government then requires approval in the lower
house of the parliament within 30 days. The 18-member government will only have
four new faces. Enditem |
