PRAGUE, April 25 (Xinhuanet) -- Czech Prime Minister
Stanislav Gross resigned on Monday, a spokesman for the Czech president
announced.
"President Vaclav Klaus today accepted the resignation of the government from Stanislav Gross," the
spokesman said.
The resignation could end weeks of political crisis
triggered by a scandal over the financing of Gross' luxury apartment.
In accordance with the constitution of the Czech
Republic, the cabinet is dissolved when the prime minister resigns.
Gross had headed the government since last July.
Earlier on Monday, the Czech Republic's three ruling
parties --Gross' Social Democrats, the Christian Democrats and the Freedom Union
-- signed a pact for a new government, paving the way for Gross' resignation.
Jiri Paroubek, vice chairman of the Social Democrats,
is expected to take the post of the prime minister and he will meet President
Klaus Monday noon. Enditem |
