CHANGCHUN, April 24 (Xinhuanet) -- Rescuers have not
found the 69 miners trapped in a flooded coal mine in Jiaohe, a city in
northeast China's Jilin Province, according to the local rescue center.
There were a total of 69 workers working beneath the
shaft of Tengda Coal Mine when the flooding occurred around 7 a.m. Sunday.
Water continues to fill the flooded shaft and
fortunately the ventilation remained normal underground, said Yuan Yuqing, vice
director of Jilin Provincial Coal Administration.
Sources with the rescue center, which is now run by
Jilin Provincial Governor, Wang Min, confirmed that the water came from the
Ji'an mine. The mine which was located several hundreds of meters away from the
flooded Tengda Coal Mine, a licensed township-run coal production business.
Rescuers are now busy draining water from the shaft
and blocking more water from entering underground.
Cause of the flooding is under investigation. Enditem
