Binh Dinh ends winless run in Asian Champions League
www.chinaview.cn 2005-04-20 20:40:39

BANGKOK, Apr. 20 (Xinhuanet) -- Worrawoot Srimaka converted a first-half penalty as Vietnam National Cup holder Binh Dinh embraced its first ever win in the AFC Champions League by downing 10-man Krung Thai Bank 1-0 on Wednesday.

The former Thailand international striker, a member of the BEC Tero Sasana that reached the 2002-03 AFC ChampionsLeague final, kept his cool to fire home from the spot in the 19th minute after Truong Hoang Vu had been brought down in the box by Krung Thai Bank goalkeeper Kriangkrai Suwannakun.

Worrawoot had also scored a penalty in their 2-1 defeat by KrungThai Bank in Vietnam a fortnight ago but Wednesday's goal proved enough to finally give Binh Dinh a victory after nine winless matches in the AFC Champions League, dating back to last year's competition.

The match at the Tupatemee Stadium was a testy affair with the home side finishing with 10 men after Thailand international defender Rungroj Sawangsri was sent off in the closing stages for kicking Nguyen Van Hien after being fouled, for which the Binh Dinhplayer received a yellow card.

The defeat all but ended Krung Thai's hopes of catching group leader Busan I' Park for first place in Group G. The Thai side hassix points from four matches and is six points adrift of the South Korean side with only two rounds of games remaining. Enditem
