BEIJING, April 19 -- This year's high-profile hit "The Promise" will be made into a popular online game, titled "The Promise Online".

The film's director Chen Kaige and star, wife Chen Hong appeared, at the Diaoyutai Hotel in Beijing to formally announce a joint venture with French software giant, Ubi Soft to produce the game.

The project marks China's first attempt to turn a blockbuster film into an online game.

The Promise will appear at the Cannes Film Festival, which opens early next month.
