US aid worker killed in Baghdad

    BAGHDAD, April 17 (Xinhuanet) -- A US humanitarian aid worker andĦĦtwo others were killed on Saturday in a suicide car bomb attack ona convoy on Baghdad's airport road, a US embassy spokesman said on Sunday.

    Marla Ruzicka, 27, the founder of the Campaign for Innocent Victims in Conflict, was killed by the bombing attack while driving behind a private security convoy, said the spokesman.Five people were wounded in the incident and taken to a US military hospital, he added, without giving the identities of the other two dead.

    But media reports said the two were Ruzicka's Iraqi colleague Faiz Ali Salim and a French national of Czech origin. The suicide bomber himself also died.

    In Paris, the French Foreign Ministry confirmed that a French national was killed in an attack in Baghdad on Saturday.The Baghdad's airport road is one of the most dangerous in Iraq,which witnesses almost daily suicide bomb blasts and ambushes.

    Meanwhile, three US soldiers were killed and seven others wounded in a mortar attack on a US Marine base near the Iraqi cityof Ramadi west of Baghdad, the US military said on Sunday.

    The attack occurred on Saturday night when insurgents fired mortar rounds at the base, the military said in a statement.About 1,550 US soldiers have been killed in Iraq since the US-led invasion in March 2003. Enditem Enditem
