BAGHDAD, April 17 (Xinhuanet) -- Iraqi security forces have captured one of the main insurgent leaders related to Izzat Ibrahimal-Douri, a prominent wanted figure in the country, the government said Sunday.

Hashim Hussein al-Juboury was captured on March 7 in Shumariyah area in Salah al-Din province based on intelligence tip-off from local residents, the government said in a statement.

Juboury, a nephew of al-Douri, was a former officer in the dissolved Intelligence Service and believed to be in charge of supporting and directing insurgent cells in the Zaab river region, the statement said.

"Al Jaboury received financial sums from Izzat al-Douri in order to set up terrorist organizations and finance military operations against the Iraqi government and the security forces, in addition to facilitating the entrance of foreign terrorists and offering financial support for them in Zaab region," the statement said.

Al-Douri, one of Saddam's top aides, is number six on the US military's list of the 55 most-wanted Iraqis, with a bounty of 10 million US dollars on his head.  Enditem
