India to release 292 Pakistanis

NEW DELHI, April 17 (Xinhuanet) -- Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh Sunday conveyed to Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf the decision to release 292 Pakistanis, including 156 fishermen, who are lodged in different prisons in the country, Indo-Asian News Service reported.

While the Pakistani fishermen would be released Tuesday, 136 civilians would be released as soon as Islamabad submits their travel documents to New Delhi, Indian Foreign Secretary Shyam Saran said after talks between the two leaders.

Both sides also agreed, as a humanitarian gesture, to hand backcivilians who had strayed into each other's territory in the recent past, Shyam Saran said.

India's decision to release Pakistani prisoners reciprocates Islamabad's release last month of 564 Indian fishermen. Enditem
