www.chinaview.cn 2005-04-14 13:05:26

KATHMANDU, April 14 (Xinhuanet) -- Bill Gates, the world's richest person, will invest in rural electrification in Nepal, a leading Nepali daily newspaper reported Thursday.

According to a report from The Rising Nepal newspaper, about 13 million Nepali rupees (185,700 US dollars) will be poured in Nepal's northeastern district of Solukhumbu through the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

A US company E&C and the local Beni Electric Company will launch a project to combine the transmission of local micro-hydrol plants in the district.

William Gates, father of Bill Gates, had shown interest in helping the area get electricity when he came to Nepal a few years ago and went trekking in the area.

The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation has already provided morethan 24 billion US dollars in various countries, especially in Africa, to fight HIV/AIDS, on education and other development activities. Enditem
