BEIJING, April 14 -- United Nations Secretary-General Kofi Annan has named former US President Bill Clinton as the UN's special envoy on tsunami relief.

Speaking at UN headquarters in New York, Clinton said the problems left by the December tsunami that devastated parts of Asia were nowhere near solved, and that the international community must not lose its focus.

Annan said Clinton's role would be to liaise with the governments of both affected and donor countries and maximize and maintain the delivery of aid.
