กก BOGOTA, April 11 (Xinhuanet) -- Washington will not tolerate
"disturbing countries" in Latin America which do not cooperate in the combat
against terrorism, Chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff Richard Myers said
here Monday.
Speaking at a press conference,
Myers said all Latin American countries should "jointly fight" the common enemy
of terrorism and" there cannot be countries disturbing stability in ways not
helpful to combating the threat."
His remarks are regarded as a response to the
Venezuelan government's denunciation of alleged US intervention in the country's
affairs.
A lack of cooperation in the anti-terrorism war could
force theUnited States to directly intervene, he said, adding however that he
could not say "what measures would be taken" against those uncooperative
countries.
Meanwhile, Myers said, "Someone is making up stories"
in the press about the United States invading or planning to invade Venezuela
"and there is nothing true in that regard."
On US-Colombia military cooperation in the fight
against drugs,Myers vowed continuous US support for Colombia's efforts against
drug-trafficking and terrorism.
According to Myers, US Secretary of State Condoleezza
Rice "will be here in Colombia within two weeks" to elaborate on US foreign
policy.
Rice will visit Brazil, Colombia, Chile and El
Salvador from April 26 to 30 to "express support for democracy, free trade and
sustained development in the region and beyond," according to the US State
Department. Enditem |
