Philippine police say terrorists adopt pattern of action
www.chinaview.cn 2005-04-12 10:16:25

MANILA, April 12 (Xinhuanet) -- The chief of the Philippine National Police has claimed that terrorists have adopted a pattern of action by staging a major bombing attack around every six months, reported the local daily "Manila Times" on Tuesday.

The Philippine National Police chief Director General Arturo Lomibao also said that the national police force has already put in place adequate security measures to thwart possible terrorist attacks.

Lomibao acknowledged that "terrorism is now a fact of life" forFilipinos, and said: "Every six months something is happening".

He warned that it is possible that terrorists may be consolidating their forces for another major attack as a follow-upto the deadly Valentine's Day blasts on February 14 in Metro Manila and two southern cities.

The police put on a high alert during the Easter holidays in late March and arrested a number of suspected terrorists.

The Philippine cities came under bomb attacks from time to time, with the latest being a blast in a marketplace in General Santos City, Mindanao, in December last year and three simultaneous bombings in Metro Manila, General Santos and Davao in February. More than 20 people were killed in these attacks.

The authorities blamed the Abu Sayyaf Group for the attacks. Enditem
