www.chinaview.cn 2005-04-12 08:54:42

BEIJING, April 12 -- At least 65 suspected militants have been detained in one of the largest US-Iraqi joint raids in central Baghdad.

The US military said about 500 members of Iraq's police and army and "a couple of hundred" American soldiers participated in the operation around buildings in the Rashid neighborhood.

It added one Iraqi soldier was wounded but there were no American casualties.

In a related development, insurgents targeted the gates of a US military base in western Iraq with three suicide car bombs, injuring three U.S. Marines and another three civilians.
