BAGHDAD, April 11 (Xinhuanet) -- An American contractor was kidnapped in Iraq on Monday, a spokesman for the US embassy in Iraq said.

    The contractor worked on a reconstruction project and his family had been notified of his abduction, said the spokesman. No further details were immediately known.

    Over 200 foreigners have been kidnapped in Iraq since the toppling of former Iraqi regime in 2003. Most of the hostages were released but some were killed by their captors. Enditem
