US Embassy to Nepal denies recall of ambassador

KATHMANDU, April 11 (Xinhuanet) -- The US Embassy to Nepal has denied reports that the US government recalled its ambassador to Nepal James F. Moriarty.

"The reports are not true at all," a US embassy official told reporters, adding, "The visit is entirely personal."

According to the official, envoy Moriarty left Kathmandu for the United States last week and is returning on Friday.

The vernacular daily Nepal Samacharpatra on its Monday's edition reported that Moriarty was recalled by the US government, and told journalists in Washington that if fundamental rights were not restored in Nepal by next week, assistance would be stopped.

A few days after Nepali King Gyanendra's takeover of power on Feb. 1, the US government recalled Ambassador Moriarty "for consultations." Enditem
