Israel does not want Palestinian partner: official

RAMALLAH, April 11 (Xinhuanet) -- Secretary General of the Palestinian cabinet Samir Hleila said on Monday that Israel does not want a Palestinian partner in negotiations to push the stalled peace process forward.

Hleila told the Voice of Palestine that Israel is looking for a Palestinian partner who does not have any competence so as to implement its own plans.

"These plans are related either to implementing the unilateral disengagement plan or expanding settlements and annexing more territories to Jerusalem's area," he said.

He also denied an Israeli allegation that the Palestinian National Authority (PNA) has lost control of security in the Gaza Strip and it is unable to be committed to signed understandings.

After Israeli soldiers shot dead three Palestinian teens on the borders between the Gaza Strip and Egypt, several militant groups resumed mortar attacks on Jewish settlements in the Gaza Strip.

"We are totally committed to all reached understandings," Hleila said.

Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon, who is on a visit to the United States, said that resuming mortars attacks on settlements was a violation of the Sharm el-Sheikh understanding.

During the Feb. 8 Sharm el-Sheikh summit, Sharon and Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas declared a mutual ceasefire. Enditem
