Palestinian militants continue attacks on Jewish settlements

GAZA, April 11 (Xinhuanet) -- Palestinian militant groups on Monday continued firing homemade mortar shells at Jewish settlements and Israeli army lookout posts in the Gaza Strip.

The militants resumed firing mortars at the settlements after Israeli soldiers shot dead three Palestinian teens playing near the borders between southern Gaza town of Rafah and Egypt on Saturday.

The groups said in the leaflets that "the killing of the three Palestinian teens in Rafah on Saturday is an indication that Israelis not interested at all in ceasefire or reaching a peace agreement with the Palestinians."

The settlement of Naveh Dekalim, west of the southern Gaza town of Khan Younis, was attacked by homemade mortar shells, said the leaflets.

The militant groups included the armed wings of the Islamic resistance movement Hamas, Islamic Jihad, Fatah and the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP).

An Israeli army spokesman said that several Jewish settlements and Israeli army posts were hit by homemade mortars fired by Palestinian militants, adding that some buildings were damaged.

Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon termed the resuming mortars attacks as "a violation to Sharm el-Sheikh understanding," saying he would raise this issue during his meeting with US President George W. Bush.  Enditem
