BEIJING, April 11 -- Iraq's interim Prime Minister Iyad Allawi has agreed that his party will join the country's new government.

Iraq's interim Prime Minister Iyad Allawi has agreed that his party will join the country's new government.

His spokesman, Thaer al-Naqib, said on Sunday that Iyad Allawi decided his bloc would take part in the new government because he believed the move would push forward the political and democratic process in Iraq.

A new Iraqi cabinet is expected to be formed and win approval from the parliament this month.

In another development, Iraq's newly-elected President Jalal Talabani stated his support for a continued US and other allied military presence in Iraq until Iraq is able to rebuild its military forces.

He said he opposed setting a timetable for the US military's exit from the country.
