MOSCOW, April 10 (Xinhuanet) -- A retired general of Russia's Federal Security Service (FSB) was shot dead by unidentified gunmen in Moscow Sunday evening, the Itar-Tass news agency reported.
Colonel General Anatoly Trofimov, who was a former head of the FSB
branch for Moscow and the Moscow region, was killed when the gunmen opened fire
on his jeep in a northern residential area of Moscow at around 7:30 p.m. (1530

His wife was seriously injured and rushed to hospital for treatment,
police said.
An investigation team made up of representatives of the FSB, the
Interior Ministry and the Prosecutor's Office is examining the crime scene and
questioning eyewitnesses, a police source was quoted as saying.
"There is preliminary information that two unidentified men in a car
opened submachine gun fire at Anatoly Trofimov and his wife Tatiana Kopytsyna,"
the source said.
Trofimov was a deputy head of the Soviet Union's State Security
