PARIS, April 8 (Xinhuanet) -- France condemned on Friday the bomb attack in an open-air market in Cairo's Old City, in which one French national was killed and three others injured, the French Foreign Ministry said.

One of the three injured left hospital on Friday morning and would return to France in the day, said the foreign ministry's spokesman Jean-Baptiste Mattei at a news conference, adding that the two others will remain in hospital in Egypt and their returning home will depend on their health condition.

France promised Egypt its solidarity and the French Foreign Minister Michel Barnier sent a message to families of the victims to express his condolences, said the spokesman.

The attack, which took place at around 5:00 p.m. (1500 GMT) in the market close to al-Azhar mosque, one of the most revered shrines in the Sunni Muslim world, killed three people, including a French woman, an American man and the third one has not yet beenidentified. Eighteen others of various nationalities were injured, consisting of three French, four Americans, one Italian, one Turk, and nine Egyptians, according to Egyptian authorities.

A previously unknown Islamic group on Friday claimed responsibility for the bomb attack, according to an Internet statement. Enditem
