BEIJING, April 6 -- China's permanent Representative to the UN Wang Guangya says progress in major world issues will be a priority, as he assumes the rotating presidency of the Security Council this month.

Wang said that under Chinese leadership, the Security Council will closely track events in the Middle East and Africa.

Wang Guangya led consultations on Monday, ahead of passing the council's April work plan.

He said that with the presidency, China will push the Security Council to be fair, pragmatic, democratic and transparent.
