Greek police confiscate 39 luxury cars in tax fraud case

    ATHENS, April 5 (Xinhuanet) -- The Attica region financial crimes unit has confiscated 39 luxury cars after discovering a scam through which several cars had been put into circulation with paying due taxes and tariffs, Athens News Agency reported Tuesday.

    An investigation conducted with the Greek customs office revealed that a ring that submitted forged customs documents in order to obtain legal registration and license plates for cars that had not paid taxes due, said the report.

    The unpaid taxes for the 39 cars discovered so far came to a total of 1.1 million euros, it added.

    Greek government has accused that smuggling hurt its state revenues in the first two months this year. Enditem
