Sudan stages mass protest against UN resolution 1593

KHARTOUM, April 5 (Xinhuanet) -- Tens of thousands of Sudanese people took to the street here Tuesday to protest against a UN resolution referring war crime suspects in Sudan's Darfur region tothe International Criminal Court in The Hague.

The demonstration, organized by the ruling National Congress Party (NCP), came two days after the Sudanese government rejected the UN Security Council resolution 1593 adopted last Thursday.

The resolution was "a clear indication of the vicious intention to violate Sudan's sovereignty", said a NCP leaflet.

The statement accused the UN of "incurring disorder in Sudan andcomplicating the Darfur conflict and hampering the process of peaceand development".

A petition submitted by the demonstrators demanded UN Security General Kofi Annan step down, accusing him of "being affected by Zionist power".

It also urged the government to expel the UN officials "loyal toIsrael and imperialism".

It pointed out that the global organization has become completely frail and is suffering an ethic crisis by adopting double standard in treating different nations.Enditem
