BAGHDAD, April 5 (Xinhuanet) - A car bomb blew up on Tuesday at an Iraqi army check point in Baghdad's Ameriyah neighborhood, killing at least two civilians, witnesses said.
A car bomb detonated at a checkpoint manned by the Iraqi security forces as a US convoy was passing by, destroying two US Hamvees, but the casualties among US soldiers were not known.
Two Iraqis were killed and several others injured in the blast, which took place near the veterinary collage close to the western Baghdad's neighborhood of Ameriyah, witnesses at the scene told Xinhua.
There was no word from the US and Iraqi forces about the incident.
The blast was the second similar attack on Tuesday in the same neighborhood, where another car bomb was detonated when a convoy carrying an Iraqi senior general passed by.
Brigadier General Jalal Mohammed Saleh, commander of the first armored unit of the new Iraqi army, escaped the assassination attempt but was abducted by gunmen who pulled him from his car.
Also on Tuesday, a third car bomb exploded near a US military patrol in southern Baghdad, injuring one Iraqi civilian.
The US military said it lost one soldier Tuesday morning "when his patrol in south Baghdad hit an improvised explosive device," and it was not known if he died in the same attack. Enditem |
