ULAN BATOR, April 5 (Xinhuanet) -- A Mongolian was confirmed to have been infected by anthrax Monday at a hospital in Ulan Bator, the Mongolian General Authority for Emergency Management (GAEM) said here Tuesday.
The unidentified patient, a herdsman from Gurvanbulag county of the country's northern Bulgan province, was found to have symptoms of anthrax in late March and sent to the hospital in Ulan Bator, said Dulamsuranthe, the GAEM press officer.
He is now in stable condition, Dulamsuranthe added.
The local government is taking measures to protect about 70 residents and more than 9,000 head of livestock near the man's residence while imposing martial law and disinfecting the whole county, he said.
Anthrax is infectious and usually fatal for warm-blooded animals, especially cattle and sheep. The disease can be transmitted to human beings through contacts with infected animal substances. Enditem |
