RAMALLAH, April 5 (Xinhuanet) -- A senior Palestinian security official said Tuesday that two committees formed by Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas are ready to act within the coming two weeks to disarm wanted militants.
Abbas issued Monday a presidential decree, giving the committees comprising Gaza and the West Bank officials two weeks to resolve the issue of about 530 militants on Israel's wanted list, said the official who asked not to be named.
The decree demanded that the wanted men be disarmed and recruited into the military and civilian apparatuses of the Palestinian National Authority.
It also made clear that the aim of the two committees is to ensure secure life for the wanted after disarming them, the official said, adding that the militants would be compensated for the arms if they had paid for them.
Earlier on Monday, Abbas said a name list of wanted Palestinian militants for involvement in armed anti-Israeli attacks had been handed over and he had asked Israel to add more militants to the list.
The list included 495 militants from the West Bank and 28 from the Gaza Strip. Enditem |
