WASHINGTON, April 4 (Xinhuanet) -- The Bush administration
said Monday it would bring trade cases against China to determine whether quotas
should be reimposed to protect textile and clothingmanufacturers against a surge
in Chinese imports.
The Committee for the
Implementation of Textile Agreements, an interagency group chaired by the
Department of Commerce, said it was initiating so-called safeguard proceedings
on imports of certain Chinese origin textile and apparel products.
"This decision is the first step in a process to
determine whether the US market for these products is being disrupted and
whether China is playing a role in that disruption," said CommerceSecretary
Carlos Gutierrez in a statement announcing the action. Enditem
