BAGHDAD, April 4 (Xinhuanet) -- A suicide car bomb detonated Monday at Abu Ghraib prison west of Baghdad, causing casualties, witnesses said.

The incident took place when a suicide bomber blew up an explosive-laden vehicle at the main gate of the notorious prison, causing several casualties.

The US military has no immediate word about the incident.

Earlier on Saturday, insurgents attacked Abu Ghraib prison, detonating two car bombs and launched mortar attacks at a US military forward base in the prison, wounding dozens of US soldiers.

The notorious detention camp, center of the prisoner abuse scandal of US troops, is 20 km west of Baghdad and currently holds more than 3,000 detainees. Enditem
