Russia backs new anti-nuclear terrorism treaty
www.chinaview.cn 2005-04-03 16:42:36

BEIJING, Apr. 3 -- Russian says the draft international treaty to fight nuclear terrorism adopted by the UN will help to unite the global efforts to counter terrorist threats.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov says the draft international treaty to fight nuclear terrorism adopted by a United Nations committee will help to unite the global efforts to counter terrorist threats.

Lavrov made the remark when commenting on the draft international convention, which was adopted on Friday by the U.N. treaty-writing committee, aiming at suppression of acts of nuclear terrorism.

He notes the drafting of the convention provides a legal foundation to prevent terrorist nuclear attacks.

The United Nations General Assembly is expected to ratify the draft convention in weeks to make it the thirteenth international anti-terrorism conventions from the UN.
