CANBERRA, April 2 (Xinhuanet) -- An Australian Navy helicopter carrying 11 personnel has crashed in Indonesia, with no casualties confirmed yet, the Department of Defense said Saturday night.
The department said in a statement that the Sea King helicopter crashed near Gunung Sitoli on Nias Island, off the west coast of Sumatra, in the afternoon.
The helicopter was conducting a sortie in the earthquake relief effort in the area.
A defense spokesman said it is not known whether anyone on board the chopper was killed.
Sydney Radio 2UE quoted Indonesian authorities as saying six people were killed in the helicopter crash, but added the report could not be confirmed. Enditem |
