KMT leader Lien Chan invited to visit mainland

    BEIJING, March 31 (Xinhuanet) -- Senior Chinese Communist Party leader Jia Qinglin Thursday extended invitation to Lien Chan, chairman of Taiwan's Kuomintang (KMT) party, to visit the mainland at proper time.

    "As Chairman Lien has expressed the intention to visit the mainland, we welcome and invite him to visit at any time he thinksappropriate," said Jia, member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Chinese Communist Party Central Committee,during a meeting with visiting KTM Vice-Chairman Chiang Pin-kung in Beijing.

    "In order to improve and develop cross-Straits relations, also we would like to invite the chairmen of other political parties in Taiwan who accept the '1992 Consensus,' oppose 'Taiwan Independence' and advocate the development of cross-Straits relations," said Jia, also chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference.
