HONG KONG, March 31 (Xinhuanet) -- An earthquake measuring 5.8 on the Richter scale rocked the sea waters west of Sumatra, Indonesia, at 3:29 p.m. (Hong Kong time) Thursday, the Hong Kong Observatory reported.
According to the Observatory, the epicenter was initially determined to be 1.8 degrees of north latitude and 97.1 degrees ofeast longitude, about 260 km south of Medan.
Earlier in the day, an quake measuring 6.3 on the Richter scalerocked the sea waters west of northern Sumatra, Indonesia, at 0:25a.m. (Hong Kong time). The epicenter was initially determined to be 3.0 north latitude and 95.4 east longitude, about 280 km south of Banda Aceh. Enditem |
