www.chinaview.cn 2005-03-31 15:40:02

BEIJING, March. 31 -- Movie-goers will be treated to two very different Chinese epics this December, Zhang Yimou's understated "Qian Li Zou Dan Ji" and Chen Kaige's big budget movie "The Promise".

"Qian Li Zou Dan Ji," is a relatively low-budget film, in which Japanese veteran actor Takakura Ken plays an old man traveling to southwestern China to fulfill his son's dying wish.

Chen Kaige's "The Promise", is a mega budget fantasy film with an all-star cast - Cecilia Cheung, Jang Dong-Kun, Hiroyuki Sanada, Liu Ye and Nicholas Tse.

Zhang Yimou and Chen Kaige are two of the most celebrated of China's Fifth Generation Directors. They both graduated from the Beijing Film Academy in the early 1980s, and Zhang worked as the cinematographer for Chen's directorial d¨¦but Yellow Earth and the follow-up The Big Parade. Enditem
