Dahlan urges Israel to remove X-ray checking equipment at Rafah crossing

GAZA, March 30 (Xinhuanet) -- Palestinian Minister of Civilian Affairs Mohammed Dahlan urged Israel Wednesday to remove an X-ray checking chamber at Rafah crossing, which Dahlan said would do great harm to the Palestinians' health.

Describing the Israeli practice as "part of assaulting attempts against the Palestinian people", Dahlan demanded Israel remove the X-ray chamber, installed several weeks ago for security check on the Palestinians who passed the crossing.

The minister also threatened that if Israel refused the demand, the Palestinian National Authority (PNA) would prevent the Palestinians travelling through the crossing.

"We have informed the Israeli side if these machines are not removed we will prevent the Palestinians from travelling through the crossing to protect their health," Dahlan said.

He added Israel had been forced to remove such a machine at another crossing linking the West Bank and Jordan after the Palestinians protested against it.

Rafah crossing is the only entrance and exit linking the Gaza Strip and Egypt for thousands of Palestinians. Enditem
